Having served as Publications and Technology Coordinator within the
Education Department of UNA-USA, since October, 2007, Ben has now taken on a
leading role in the organization's website redesign and overall online
strategy. The Long Island, NY native received his undergraduate degree from
Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and a graduate degree in
'Globalization, Development and Transition' from the
University of Westminster in London, England
(his "home away from home").
Upon completing his studies Mr. Fortney also served as a
visiting lecturer in a variety of undergraduate courses,
focusing on the development, and sociology of the
emerging 'network society' and online environments.
Before joining UNA-USA, Ben filled numerous design, publication, and
promotional positions in both the music and the non-profit industries. A
seasoned traveler both internationally and domestically, he enjoys
discovering new experiences and the personal satisfaction of learning or
accomplishing something new.
While he may describe himself as an "International Man of Mystery" others
would readily apply the title of "nomadic vagabond" to him. In his
spare time, Ben explores the vastness of the internet, and has been
a member of the Pretentious Soup Club, an online experiment
in collective male intelligence (or lack thereof), since 2005.
When not helping old ladies cross the street, or dodging collapsing cranes,
Ben is an avid baseball fan, sharing a love/hate relationship with the New
York Metropolitans, and is an integral cog in the Bridgeport Orators Vintage
Baseball Club. Ben hopes to play Major League Baseball, or own a pub when
he grows up.
